Guess What? We’re alive!

Just in case anyone was wondering, we are still alive! Yes, I still plan on writing a blog. It’s just been… difficult. It’s hard to keep up on a blog when there are a million other things to do just to survive. Living off grid in a camper, on raw land. It seems like something is constantly demanding your attention and everything is urgent. It would be dishonest if I didn’t admit that I’m a little bit disappointed at the urgency of this lifestyle. I don’t regret it, but I was really hoping for a slower life style. I don’t like to be rushed, I don’t like to solve urgent problems, especially when there are people waiting on you. That’s part of the reason I decided to shift gears and sell Unshoes. There were always people waiting on me to solve the problems.

In this case, there aren’t as many people waiting on me, but I don’t love the urgency of all the little problems. If the water pump starts leaking or the pressure switch fails, it becomes urgent to fix. If something goes out in our solar power system, I have to troubleshoot it otherwise we have no power and the refrigerator starts warming up too much and we lose food. It seems like these little urgent things are constant.

I staged this self-portrait as a joke, but it was painfully prophetic!

On the other hand, that is kind of why we are doing this. We are in charge of our own systems. We aren’t dependent on others for them. I have learned SOOO much in the last two years about all kinds of things and that experience is worth it. That being said, the blog becomes lower priority. Especially when all we have to work on is a little ity-bity laptop that sucks, and eventually just died. Hopefully we can fix it because we have files that we need to access. Again, we’re reliant on our own systems and sometimes they fail… miserably!

So now, we finally have our actual computer set up, but not at home. It is in a commercial space in town that we purchased. We are renovating it (because all I needed was another massive and urgent project!) and we will be opening a store. I’ll post more detail about this later. But while we are renovating the space, we’ve got the computer set up in the back. We are getting a 3D printer set up and will hopefully start doing some custom 3D printing as a side gig to earn a little revenue while we get our store finished.

While I plan to continue blogging, it might come and go in spurts. It won’t be regular. All the successful bloggers I talked to going into this told me I had to be consistent. That’s nice, but it aint gonna happen! Hahaha! Deal with it!

I’ll just drop a few teasers for upcoming posts:
-Why we suddenly own four refrigerators but only use one
-What we’re doing with a 100 year old building
-How we rotational graze goats
-That time I almost cut my finger off with a chainsaw
-Our progress (or lack thereof) on our house
-Maybe just maybe I’ll tell you why I’m currently nursing a 3rd degree burn on the tip of my nose, left nostril, and cheek
-Herbs and wild foraged mushrooms
-And many other adventures to catch up on!!!
