In these thick brushy areas, it is difficult to move and get from one place to another. When we got here, our trails were overgrown although not nearly as bad as they were last year. Mowing the trails made a HUGE difference is accessing our property. Now that we’ve sold our tractor, we need to get our skid steer working and get a quick attach system so that we can mow again. These areas are actually the most difficult because during the growing back phase there are more thorns, and thick brush. Once you’re in the deep forest, the trees drop enough leaves to keep some of the really thick and thorny brush down. Some of these areas need to be cleared ASAP because we need spaces to live, garden, play, etc. However, this brush provides great food for our goats so we’re letting them clear some of this for us… Or at least that’s the idea. They seemed to have the most consistent positive reviews and although they are expensive, when I crunched the numbers they came out on top for price per watt. There has been a learning curve and there are some things I don’t love about it, but overall it has been a good option for our situation and I’m glad I bought it. What I like the most is that it has a 30amp outlet (right side) that we can plug our trailer into and that power goes out to the outlets, we can use the air conditioner, etc. Just be aware that this unit must have a separate battery in order to operate. It doesn’t have a battery in it so it isn’t a totally standalone unit. There are smaller standalone units available such as this one. If you’re in the market for something like this, do your research and find one that fits your needs. We removed the metal divider designed for horses, built out a loft area and put netting in so that the chickens could be there and the goats could be below. We installed a feed bin (not visible because the goats are in front of it) right below the side door of the trailer so we could feed the goats without having to open the main door and fight the goats to get them fed. We also installed a water tank (top left) with nipples for the chickens to drink and a gravity fed, automatic waterer for the goats. It isn’t food grade but it had biodegradable soap in it and once we washed it out well, it was perfect for our non drinking water needs. We also bought a cheap bucket and drilled a bunch of holes in it to keep debris from getting in the pump. The only problem was that the pump sucked enough water out of it that the bucket started to float even with the holes and it would start to tip over. We solved that with a few rocks. As I went through things to troubleshoot the issues, I found several things that needed to be replaced but I wasn’t confident that any of them were “THE” problem.
